MIND & BODY: A WINNING TEAM IN STRESS MANAGEMENT - MAY 10
Stress is an unavoidable part of life and often has many sources. Living with MS can add to this stress. While most people are familiar with the many ways that stress can adversely affect their health, many people are less aware of the potential benefits of stress. Stress can be a signal that things are out of balance and can motivate people to make needed changes. It's not unusual for people to find themselves in a vicious cycle of stress and ineffective coping, which can result in even more stress. Learning how to interrupt and change the direction of this challenging cycle is critical. This goal is more likely to be achieved when your mind and body work as a team.

PARTICIPATE IN A RESEARCH STUDY
Texas Women's University is currently recruiting people living with MS to participate in a motor learning research study. Individuals with multiple sclerosis often exhibit deficits in motor dexterity and coordination as a result of the damage the disease does to the central nervous system. Studies have shown that the ability for individuals with MS to learn new motor patterns is initially preserved during the early stages of the disease, but then declines as the disease progresses. This study will gather information about lower extremity motor learning in individuals with MS in order to develop improved methods of gait training and neuromuscular reeducation in physical therapy. Learn more about participation requirements and how to register by downloading the study flyer.
