Share Your Story and Make a Difference

Sharing your daily experiences as a person affected by MS may be one of the easiest things you can do to help create a world free of MS! Legislators make decisions every day that impact everything from MS research funding, to accessibility, employee rights, and healthcare costs. MS activists are passionate about sharing their stories to deepen relationships with legislators and advance policies to help people with MS live their best lives, today.

StateDay2014.jpg
  • August is a great month to get started! The U.S. Congress takes a break, and your legislators are back in their home state meeting with people in their communities. This is a great time to introduce yourself, share your story, and support MS activists efforts on a federal level.

  • In the spring, join us for a State Action Day in Austin, where you will learn how to effectively share your story, meet with your state legislators, and connect with others in the MS movement.

  • Read about current issues, and contact Claire.Mitchell@nmss.org or 512-349-2711 to learn more.

  • Sign up to be an MS Activist You will receive regular communcations letting you know about current issues and how you can take action, sometimes with just a click of a button.

PARTICIPATE IN A COGNITIVE RESEARCH PROJECT
Participate in a research project that teaches strategies to help you improve cognitive function in everyday life! Dr. Alexa Stuifbergen from the UT Austin School of Nursing received funding from the NIH for a multi-site trial of an intervention to improve cognitive function called MAPSS-MS (Memory, Attention and Problem Solving Skills for Persons with MS). In an earlier study, the MAPSS-MS intervention improved memory and the use of compensatory strategies. This new 8-month study will pair group sessions with home computer practice and will take place in Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston. Dr. Stuifbergen and her team have been conducting research regarding issues that impact the quality of life for persons with MS for more than 20 years. If interested in participating in this new study, please call Vicki Kullberg at 800-687-8010 to see if you qualify. There is a $225 compensation for completing the study.
